This comes from illustrations by Gustav Dore of the wonderful and epic poem by John Milton, Paradise Lost. I acquired the book in a second hand bookshop in Worthing when Andy Kinnear and I shared a workshop in nearby Bognor Regis. Paradise Lost was first published in 1667, and tells the story of Satan’s rebellion against God, his defeat and plan of revenge to seduce a new creation of beings (humans) whom he tracks down on a newly created planet in the beautiful garden of Eden. My design comes from a montage of several of the most beautiful illustrations of the amazing story.
